Khosar Gang Peak Expedition Itinerary
Expand AllArrival in Islamabad
Arrive in Islamabad International Airport (ISB). • Transfer to a hotel for rest and briefing. • Gear check and last-minute shopping for expedition essentials. • Optional sightseeing: Faisal Mosque, Pakistan Monument, or local bazaars. • Overnight stay in Islamabad.
Flight to Skardu (2,230m) or Drive via Karakoram Highway
Option 1: Domestic flight from Islamabad to Skardu (1 hour) (weather-dependent). • Option 2: If the flight is canceled, travel by road via Karakoram Highway (2 days, 18–20 hours total drive time). • Upon arrival, transfer to a hotel and rest. • Short visit to Skardu Bazaar, Kharpocho Fort, or Satpara Lake. • Overnight stay in Skardu.
Drive from Skardu to Shigar & Trek to Base Camp (4,200m)
Drive 45 km (1.5 hours) from Skardu to Shigar Valley via Thog Thog village. • Start the trek from Thog Thog village. • The 5–6 hour trek takes you through scenic meadows, rock formations, and glacier paths. • Arrive at Base Camp (4,200m) and set up tents. • Enjoy panoramic views of Shigar Valley and the Karakoram Range. • Overnight stay in Base Camp.
Acclimatization & Ice Climbing Training
Spend the day acclimatizing to high altitude. • Short practice hikes and technical training on: • Ice climbing techniques • Rope fixing and crampon use • Glacier navigation skills • Rest and prepare for higher altitudes. • Overnight stay in Base Camp.
Trek to High Camp (5,200m)
A steep ascent over rock, snow, and glacier terrain. • 6–7 hours of trekking/climbing to reach High Camp. • Set up camp and prepare for the summit push. • Rest and hydrate to adjust to the altitude. • Overnight stay in High Camp.
Summit Attempt (6,050m) & Return to Base Camp
Early start at 2:00 AM for the summit push. • Mixed climbing on 30–45° snow and ice slopes. • Reach the summit by sunrise and enjoy breathtaking views of: • K2, Broad Peak, Masherbrum, and Shigar Valley. • Descend back to Base Camp by afternoon. • Overnight stay in Base Camp.
Day 7: Buffer/Extra Day (Contingency for Weather or Rest)
Extra day in case of bad weather or slow acclimatization. • Optional short hikes or glacier exploration. • Overnight in Base Camp or descent to lower camps.
Trek Back to Shigar & Drive to Skardu
Trek down from Base Camp to Thog Thog village (5 hours). • Drive back to Skardu (1.5 hours). • Check into a hotel for a well-deserved rest. • Explore Shigar Fort, Skardu Cold Desert, or Manthokha Waterfall. • Overnight stay in Skardu.
Return to Islamabad
Option 1: Flight from Skardu to Islamabad (1 hour). • Option 2: Start road journey back via Karakoram Highway (2 days). • Upon arrival in Islamabad, transfer to a hotel. • Overnight stay in Islamabad.
