 OVERVIEW

Haramosh Valley is a hidden gem located in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of northern Pakistan, nestled within the mighty Karakoram Range. Renowned for its untouched natural beauty, lush alpine meadows, snow-capped peaks, and traditional villages, the valley offers an off-the-beaten-path adventure for trekkers and nature lovers alike.

At the heart of the valley lies the spectacular Kutwal Lake, a high-altitude glacial lake surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery. Towering above the lake is the majestic Haramosh Peak (7,409m)—a stunning backdrop that makes Kutwal Lake one of the most scenic alpine lakes in the region.

🧭 Trekking Experience

The trek to Kutwal Lake is moderately challenging, requiring good physical fitness but no technical climbing skills. Trekkers pass through forests, rocky terrain, and traditional settlements, making it a rewarding cultural and natural experience. The best time to visit is between June and September, when the trails are clear and the weather is pleasant.

🏕️ Why Visit?

  • Escape the crowds—Haramosh is one of the least explored valleys in the Karakoram.

  • Breathtaking alpine scenery—perfect for photographers, hikers, and nature lovers.

  • Authentic experience of local Balti culture and remote mountain life.

  • Ideal for acclimatization and warm-up treks before attempting higher peaks.

 DAYS ITINERARY

Kutwal Lake Trek (Haramosh Valley) 07 Days Itinerary

Expand All

The journey begins with a scenic drive or flight from Islamabad to Gilgit. Upon arrival in Gilgit, you’ll transfer to a hotel for check-in and relaxation. The rest of the evening is free to explore the town or rest before the trek begins.

After breakfast, a 4x4 jeep ride takes you from Gilgit to the remote village of Sassi, which serves as the trailhead. From there, you’ll start trekking toward the village of Iskere. The trail takes about four to five hours and passes through lush forests and small hamlets. The night is spent camping near Iskere.

On this day, the trek continues from Iskere to the beautiful Kutwal Lake, which takes about five to six hours. The trail ascends gradually through alpine meadows and offers increasingly spectacular views of Haramosh Peak. By afternoon, you’ll arrive at the lake, where you’ll set up camp and enjoy the serenity of the surroundings.

This is a rest and exploration day at Kutwal Lake. You may choose to relax by the lakeshore, explore nearby meadows, or take an optional short hike toward Haramosh Glacier for even more dramatic views. The day is perfect for photography and soaking in the pristine natural beauty.

After breakfast, the group retraces the trail back to Iskere. The descent is easier and takes around four to five hours. You’ll camp again near Iskere or in a suitable open area depending on weather and group pace.

The final trekking leg takes you from Iskere back to Sassi village in about two to three hours. From there, the jeep picks you up for the return drive to Gilgit. After arrival, you’ll check into a hotel and have the evening free for shopping or a walk through Gilgit Bazaar.

The tour concludes with your return to Islamabad, either by road or flight depending on the arrangement and weather. This marks the end of the Haramosh Valley and Kutwal Lake adventure.
