OVERVIEW
Laila Peak, located in the Hushe Valley of the Karakoram range in Pakistan, is renowned for its striking beauty and technical challenges. Often referred to as the “Queen of the Karakoram,” its iconic needle-like shape and distinct aesthetics make it a favorite among mountaineers and photographers alike. Standing at 6,096 meters (20,000 feet), the peak offers an exhilarating climbing experience, particularly for experienced alpinists seeking a remote and less-commercialized ascent.
The expedition typically begins in Islamabad, followed by a scenic journey to Skardu and Hushe, where the trek to the base camp starts. Climbers pass through awe-inspiring landscapes, including glacial valleys and rugged terrains. The climb itself demands technical expertise, particularly on the steep summit ridge, which requires proficiency in ice and rock climbing.
Laila Peak is particularly appealing during the summer months (June to August), when weather conditions are relatively stable. While not as high as neighboring peaks, its challenging routes and captivating vistas of the Karakoram make it a bucket-list destination for climbers. The peak also provides breathtaking views of surrounding giants like K2, Masherbrum, and Gondogoro La.
For adventure enthusiasts, Laila Peak is a perfect blend of challenge, serenity, and natural splendor.
